Loki Laufeyson

"Okay, so I'm messing around with this idea for a fanfic about young Loki from the Marvel Movie-verse. This snippet would be right after an attack was made on the Palace of Asgard by the Jotuns who had a mind to make off with the youngest prince. What would have happened if Loki had found out about his heritage a wee bit sooner?" -Casey

Loki ran his hand over one of the few dripping wet tapestries that were still hanging on the wall. It was still ice cold to the touch. He clenched the fabric in his fist and ice crystals ran along the stitched image of the all-father. He slumped forward, yanking the frozen cloth so that the ice on it cracked and rained small flakes atop his head.
“Brother,” a familiar voice called, breaking the silence. “Why do you linger in solitude?”
Loki released his hold on the tapestry and stepped back from it, but he did not turn to face Thor. “Did the tales not tell that the frost giants stalked alone in the shadows?” Loki replied. “Bringing a cold death to all that they touched…”
“Loki, you are not of those monsters,” Thor assured his brother. “They came to lay waste to the sons of Odin and when that proved futile they sowed their lies in hopes of dividing us! Nothing more!”
“You saw!” Loki shouted as he rounded on Thor. “The marks on my hands, the morbid shade of melanin.” He turned aside to glare at the ceiling, his eyes shimmering. “I am not your brother…I am not even permitted the title ‘Odinson.’”
Before Thor could make a reply, the great golden doors to the throne room swung open and heavy footsteps echoed as the all-father approached the boys.
“It is true that this name can only be bestowed upon my son,” the man stated as he came to stand before them. “That is a title that shall never be lost to you, Loki.”
Odin put his hands on his son’s shoulders and regarded him with hesitation. “It is true,” he admitted. “Laufey was the one who sired you, but I assure you that he has no claim to you.”
“Father,” Thor tried to interrupt, but was silenced by a single warning glance from his father.
“You took me from Jotunheim together with the casket,” Loki reasoned, swallowing hard. “Why would you do such a thing?”
The all-father stared carefully at Loki as if searching for something in his eyes. “I took you because you were full of life, a child with the potential to be so much more than any could ever hope to grasp.”
“Potential! Destiny!” Loki scoffed. “So you are no different from Laufey!”
The prince pulled away from Odin and then darted out of his reach, running past Thor before disappearing through the door.
